Overview
PRISCILLA HEINE: Buoyant Abandon, Southern Vermont Art Center
The sense of blossoming is palpable in Heine’s work and this gradual unspiraling of peace and pleasure evokes a comforting embrace, a warm meal, an excitement for what is found and a tranquil acceptance for what is gone.

Priscilla Heine: Buoyant Abandon opens Saturday February 11, 2023 at the Southern Vermont Arts Center in Manchester, Vermont and runs through Sunday May 7, 2023.

Bending the corners of space with vibrant pigments and tumultuous brushwork, Priscilla Heine defines the world of memories and shifting dimensions. The power of the whole becomes apparent in the same way that the melody of a single flower embodies the magic of a botanical orchestra. The sense of blossoming is palpable in Heine’s work and this gradual unspiraling of peace and pleasure evokes a comforting embrace, a warm meal, an excitement for what is found and a tranquil acceptance for what is gone.

(Manchester, VT) - A solo exhibition of recent paintings and sculpture by Priscilla Heine opens Saturday February 11, 2023 at the Southern Vermont Arts Center in Manchester, Vermont and runs through Sunday May 7, 2023.

Priscilla Heine's abstract paintings and sculptures are exuberant with lush and electric poetry. While unspiraling peace and pleasure, Heine engages in a visual language that is flexible yet complex, and heralds an irreverent beauty. Through the use of dynamic calligraphy, rich pigments, organic figuration and layers of personal metaphor, this visual dialogue is both lyrical and possesses an uncanny humor. Bending the corners of space with barely identifiable references, Heine defines the world through a deep connectivity. The power of the whole is always at hand as Heine doesn't so much interpret the world around her as she absorbs it, bringing it to life with swashbuckling energy and reverence.

Priscilla Heine (American, b. 1956) studied at various institutions including the Arts Students League, Bennington College, Parsons School of Design at the New School, and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts while at Tufts University. Heine has shown her work consistently since earning her BFA from Tufts University in 1979, and a 5th year diploma from the Museum School participating in solo and group exhibitions at the Boston City Hall, the School of Visual Arts, Emily Harvey Gallery, Diana Saravia Gallery of Montevideo, and the Casa de La Cultura Intendencia de Maldonado, and Wally Findlay and Findlay Galleries of NYC and Palm Beach Florida; Heckscher Museum of Art, Islip Art Museum, Long Island, NY; Ashawagh Hall and Guild Hall of East Hampton, and the Parrish Museum of Watermill, NY. Born and raised in New York City, Priscilla Heine has recently moved from East Hampton, NY, to her studio and home in Greensboro Bend, Vermont as well as maintaining a home and studio in Montevideo and Punta Del Este, Uruguay.
