This exhibition of drawings by Lynne Tobin and sculptures by Millicent Young participates in the spiritual tradition of sacred spaces throughout Venice,

The artworks of both  Lynne Tobin and Millicent Young depend on humble and repurposed materials. Lynne Tobin uses rope dipped in ink to make her works on paper while Millicent Young's diverse sculptural objects include horsehair, wood, wire and other reclaimed items.

With string and ink, Lynne Tobin's drawings explore the specific markmaking inherent in the materials she is using. Spontaneous marks and textures made by materials saturated in ink contrast with the careful linear repeating patterns.  Her immediate world, every day rituals, and meditation practice inspire how she works. The process of drawing with sumi ink and string is akin to meditation where the repetition of each gesture builds on each other. .
Millicent Young's sculptures convey the fragmentation that arises from our contemporary condition. The works respond to specific events of breakdown: the collapsing biosphere, war, displacement, and the loss of language, place, and relationship. Young meets these events as matters of the soul - where collective history and personal story become conjoined. The works grow from an ethos of care forming the possibility of healing.

Both of these artists share a strong spirituality: Lynne Tobin's meditative inks on paper compel the viewer to feel the power of space while Millicent Young's devotional installations serve as a testament not only to the past but to the future.

ABOUT CASTELLO 925:
Castello 925 is a multi-disciplinary, non-profit gallery which serves as a crucible for the visual arts, literature and culture. Founder Luca Caldironi envisioned a space dedicated to creativity, or rather cre-activity. Castello 925 is a gallery where experimental expressions of all kinds come to meet, collaborate, improvise, produce and construct; a place to present "finished" works that were built elsewhere, yet also a space where new ideas and new co-operations come to life.
