Overview

My abstraction work creates harmony, tension, emotion, and balance, through color relationships where form is not bound by the constraints of representation.

                                  - Whitney Hagen

The solo exhibition Whitney Hagen at the annex gallery of Castello 925 presents paintings that depend on flat colors to shape and bend space, allowing the viewer to create their own associations with the lines and forms of her work. Hagen's use of uniformly applied pigments in a geometric rubric depicts a dynamic universe independent of tonal gradations yet vibrating with saturated color.

About Whitney Hagen: Whitney Hagen holds a BA in Studio Arts from Bard College. Her artwork has been exhibited in the Northeastern United States, including the Hudson Valley in New York State  and in New England.  This exhibition in Venice, Italy is the first solo exhibition for the artist in Europe. Whitney Hagen lives and works in Newport, Rhode Island.
