Overview
I FORESTI · Venice, Italy, Anne Leith, Robin McClintock, Martin Weinstein & Millicent Young
"I Foresti, a group exhibition at Castello 925, plays on (a) vernacular expression as these artists from the United States are foreigners to Venice and who are also inspired by the materials and rich textures of the forest. "

(Venice, IT)- In Venetian dialect, the word for “foreigner” is “foresti” or “someone from the forest”.I Foresti, the group exhibition at Castello 925, plays on this vernacular expression as the four American artists are not only foreigners to Venice but are inspired by the archetypes, materials and rich textures of the forest. These "foreign" artists independently explore the meanings of the Venetian phrase “foresti” as they survey the sensorial experience of the woodlands (Weinstein and Leith), capture the rhythms of its hidden life forms (McClintock) and map the journey of the foreigner (Young). Together, the artists convey the experience of the forest as inspiration, destination and refuge to the city of Venice while the subject of I Foresti corresponds with the theme of the 2024 Biennale of "Foreigners Everywhere".

About the Artists:

Anne Leith:  Anne Leith is a painter of places, both observed and oneiric. The landscape is integral to her practice and the personal immersion into a greater whole is her over-arching aesthetic.

Robin McClintock:  Robin McClintock, a native New Yorker, who moved to rural West Virginia half-way through her career, conjures from that dichotomy intricate, elegant yet heavily wrought works on paper that weave the chaos of spatial memory, vestigial industrial architecture, and nature into an uncanny personal order.

Martin Weinstein: Martin Weinstein builds layers of perception from painted acrylic layers with each combining to describe a whole. These paintings, rooted in the landscape tradition, represent perpetually shifting perceptions that evolve into personal records of space, being and memory.

Millicent Young: In her use of humble materials, Millicent Young castes lyrical abstractions as timeless artifacts. With wood, horsehair and repurposed metal, Young conveys the story of the human journey from the known to the unknown.

About Castello 925

Castello 925 is a multi-disciplinary, non-profit gallery which serves as a crucible for the visual arts, literature and culture. Founder Luca Caldironi envisioned a space dedicated to creativity, or rather cre-activity. Castello 925 is a gallery where experimental expressions of all kinds come to meet, collaborate, improvise, produce and construct; a place to present “finished” works that were built elsewhere, yet also a space where new ideas and new co-operations come to life. Castello 925 provides room to live and breathe — not just for exhibitions, but support for the everyday life of an artist, the quietude of  a writer’s research, or the exchange between passionate art-seekers and collectors.

ITALIANO

Millicent Young: utilizzando materiali umili, Millicent Young crea astrazioni liriche come manufatti senza tempo.

Riguardo a Castello 925
